Peter S - it looks like the email address you used when purchasing the CD doesn't match your account email address. I have corrected this issue and you should now be able to skip video ads in your current ChamberHymns account. Please let me know if this isn't the case!

Jamie - Kreutzer and Rode are good intermediate books that I've used in the past. Give one of them a try, probably Kreutzer first and then Rode. Good luck!

Joshua R - generally speaking, viola is played using the alto clef, which requires a bit of transposition to be able to correctly read music written in treble clef for violin. Many music programs, such as Finale and Sibelius, allow you to do this in their programs. Hope this helps!

Kevin C. - honestly, I usually just transcribe measure by measure, stopping and replaying the song after each measure or two. I can nail down the notes with close to 100% accuracy this way and generally don't have to check it over at the end... although I do envy Mozart's ability to memorize and transcribe full songs after just one listen!

Hello Mr. Chan. I bought your CD a little after the promotion started yet I still get ads when I watch videos. Is that supposed to happen? Also, I've been wanting to play something pretty on violin that I could maybe work on with my violin proffesor. Do you have any suggestions?

Could anyone recommend a book of melodic etudes that is both fun and challenging for an intermediate violinist? I absolutely love the fiorrilo#28 on Ben Chan's video archive (a little out of my league but it would be fun to try). There are just so many out there. Thankyou.

Hello BenChan, I've always been interested in learning how to play instruments from the string family. Violin is this first that caught my eye, however, i have decided to take the Viola up, i wanted to ask you if this music could be played on a Viola, if so, is there anything i should know before starting?

hi ben, im wondering: how long it takes it for you to transcribe a song? Do you just memorize the music easily? or do you write it down as you listen? (because for me, I actually have to think about the beats and slow it down, so I have to take alot of pauses while listening to the vid)

Arne G., if you look thoroughly through the selections of videos he has put up, there are several pieces he's performed that are from Book 3. You won't be able to find the exact title, "Suzuki Book 3." You'll find the title of the pieces on the title of the video that were featured in book 3. Hope this helped!

Hi Ben Chan I was wondering if you could put more of the Suzuki books in your videos section for example book 3, seeing ill be graduating from book 2 soon. Be Amazing for my learning if you could!

I have a snark clip on guitar tuner that I have been using for my violin. For the most part it works great, but every now and then it confuses notes, especially in the higher octaves. Is there another kind of clip-on tuner that you would recommend?

Hi Ben. Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOO much for transcribing Asturias. I love Barrage and that song so much. Sometimes I see myself playing that on America's Got Talent or some other talent show. Thank you for helping me get there!

Hiya Ben, thanks for transcribing "You Raise Me Up". I voted like mad for this and noted only partially completed. Will you do the full song?

Just had to say this is such a wonderful website. Nice songs, nice people involved in it, everything =). I'm not aiming for the violin honestly, i'm learning the cello, yet this is still very helpful.
Now my one problem is finding the proper formula for violin music to cello without harming it =) |

I greatly appreciate your responses Ben and Cynthia! It's been a month or so here at my high school (It's my first year!) And I already have first chair! I also get to play the solo at the end of one of our songs! I hope one day to become the violinist I always wanted to be. I tried out for region and the music is a bit too tough for my level. Oh well, I have to start somewhere, right? I've got so much better in just one month! Well I hope you both are doing well, and Dot! |

Justin (and Mara): It's great to hear that you're leading your orchestras from the concertmaster chair! I can count 9 years' worth of sitting there myself, and I've found that some of the best ways for me to practice is to get a recording from the library (or on YouTube) and download it to a portable mp3 player and listen to it anytime I'm in a car, walking, etc. This helps me tremendously to learn the music. I hope this helps! Remember to listen to music while you travel!
